Shito, A Ghanaian Homemade Spicy Pepper Sauce
The word Shito simply means “pepper” deriving its name from one of the many tribes in Ghana known as the Ga tribe. As a native of Ghana, Shito was the best condiment that complimented many dishes while I was in boarding school. My mom’s authentic aromatic shito was simply the best. Relished by my Friends. It stayed fresh even if it was left unrefrigerated for weeks!
When I became a mom, I continued the tradition and began preparing this homemade rich and delicious condiment. I always had a jar of shito in the house for my children’s enjoyment. The blend of spices infused with shrimp and fish powder will have you craving for more. This delicacy can be eaten with plain rice, jollof rice, fried rice, waakye, Kenkey, yams or any meal of your choice.
Add a touch of Starlett’s Shito to transform a simple meal into a gourmet delight! A must have in every kitchen! Enjoy!
